Who is Your Jonathan?

What makes a good friend? No, actually, what makes a great friend? If you want to find a perfect example, just look at the relationship between David and Jonathan in the Old Testament.
Tonight at Core, we talked about true friendships. In 1 Samuel 23, we looked at how Jonathan went out of his way and even traveled a great distance to be with David and encourage him. Jonathan is an example of a true friend because he loved David more than he loved himself. He was humble. And he didn't stop there. He sacrificed his kingdom for David, and did so without any bitterness. Now that is the kind of friend I want.
In a great friendship, you love each other no matter what. You encourage each other and listen and exhort one another. Do you love your friends more than you love yourself?

Hebrews 10: 24-25 says,
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. "

Who is your Jonathan? Are you a Jonathan kind-of friend?

Welcome!

Thank you for accessing this page! Our heart as a leadership is that it will be used as a tool to communicate with friends and family of the youth group, and keep an updated commentary of recent and upcoming events.

This past Wednesday evening at Core, Heather Rodgers posed the question, "Are you a friend of God?" It was moving and empowering to hear how accessible the Lord is to each of us, and how every friendship and/or relationship in our lives will flow out of the nourishment we receive in our own friendship with Him.

The handout she provided asked several more questions about friendship, they are included below.

1. Based on what we've read, what kind of friend are you?

2. What kind of friend do you want to be?

3. How would you do this?

4. What would it look like, based off what we've read, to honor each other in friendship?

5. Have you ever had someone betray you in friendship? If yes, did you forgive them?

6. Have you ever been in a friendship where a friend is abusive or manipulative?

7. Do you have healthy friendships with the opposite sex? If yes, great! Do you have a good set of boundaries within that friendship? What does that look like for you?

It was a great teaching, and we pray as a leadership that true reflection and relationship will be birthed from the sweet time together.

Yesterday, (Sunday) we watched the second video presentation of Louie Giglio, "How Great is Our God". The life altering presentation left a lingering message in everyone's heart about the vastness of our God, and the reality of mankind.

Louie read out of Psalm 33 to illustrate his point,

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made,
their starry host by the breath of His mouth.
{Verse 6}

It was evident, as with any Sunday, that every person present could hear the message and without a second thought, replace meditation with immediate distraction. Knowing this, and feeling prompted by the Lord, one of the leaders exhorted everyone to go home and really ask the Lord to reveal Himself; to not ignore the information shared but to stay in a posture of reflection.

As a leadership our hearts are burdened for true relationship with the Lord, and this exhortation came as a blessing. Afterwards, another leader in our body shared a little about his experience and how thankful he personally was for the Lord's kind mercy. What an encouragement to know that each of God's precious children are being so well cared for and watched over!

Indescribable...

I was so blessed to be reminded of the vastness of the glory of our God this last Sunday. It seems rather ironic that the only way we can come close to describing our God is to say that He is....indescribable.
