Who is Your Jonathan?

What makes a good friend? No, actually, what makes a great friend? If you want to find a perfect example, just look at the relationship between David and Jonathan in the Old Testament.
Tonight at Core, we talked about true friendships. In 1 Samuel 23, we looked at how Jonathan went out of his way and even traveled a great distance to be with David and encourage him. Jonathan is an example of a true friend because he loved David more than he loved himself. He was humble. And he didn't stop there. He sacrificed his kingdom for David, and did so without any bitterness. Now that is the kind of friend I want.
In a great friendship, you love each other no matter what. You encourage each other and listen and exhort one another. Do you love your friends more than you love yourself?

Hebrews 10: 24-25 says,
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. "

Who is your Jonathan? Are you a Jonathan kind-of friend?
